The Mountain Top Fire Company was alerted for an automatic crash notification of a motor vehicle accident in the area of the 2300 BLK of Tyrone Pike. Upon the response to Chief 13, it was reported contact was made with the driver reporting being involved in an accident and was hauling cattle. Upon arrival of Chief 13, ER 13, and EMS, one pickup truck was noted off the roadway into a tree with a large trailer overturned onto its side with one patient walking wounded. EMS began patient care, and the patient was subsequently flown to a trauma center. Multiple calves were noted to be loose and roaming the highway while others were noted to be on the ground. The ER crew set up lighting and traffic control while additional members began to corral the loose cattle. All the cattle were gathered and assisted back to the trailer and were secured. Two local horse owners were notified and were gracious enough to respond to the scene to help with transferring all the cattle into their trailers for safety. EMA was also notified and arrived on scene with the Centre County Animal Response Team who also assisted with the transfer of the cattle into additional trailers. Just before clearing the scene, the cattle owner arrived on scene and all cattle was transferred into his trailer. We would like to thank the Columbia Fire Co. for establishing the landing zone, Medic 23 for providing ALS, the two local horse owners for providing their trailers and their time in the early morning, Centre Co. EMA, CART, and PSP. In total there was 69 cattle. Company 13 operated on scene with 7 volunteers for 5 hours.
