| Recently, while transporting a patient to the hospital, the patient unexpectedly became irate, unbuckled themselves, and became violent towards the EMT treating them. Thankfully our EMT was able to free himself and exit the vehicle safely and uninjured however our ambulance then became the target; ripping our communication equipment from the wall, cracking the back door fiberglass cover, breaking the locking mechanisms on both doors, breaking the sliding door window, and urinating all through the patient compartment of the ambulance destroying multiple EMS supplies and equipment. Our crew immediately requested assistance from the police department and an additional transport unit to finish the patient transport. We thank Centre LifeLink EMS, Patton Twp Police, and PSP for their response to assist us during this unfortunate event. This serves as a reminder our job has great risks. Assault to an EMS PROVIDER is a felony. It is not acceptable and will never be tolerated by our department.
We will now be down to one transport unit until repairs are made all while our area receives an influx of people celebrating the annual 4th of July Celebration in Osceola Mills. We remain committed to providing exceptional care and our Osceola Mills station is still staffed 24/7 to respond at a moment's notice. |
