As today winds down to an end, we sit back to remember September 11, 2001. 2,977 people died, 19 years ago, from a senseless act of terrorism. 2,753 at the WTC, 184 at the Pentagon, and 40 in Shankesville, PA. 343 firefighters, 23 police officers, and 8 paramedics paid the ultimate sacrifice while helping fellow Americans to safety. Multiple other first responders are living with the after-effects of working at Ground Zero. Please take this time to Never Forget and to pray for those still suffer...

We are proud to announce we have taken delivery of our 2019 Ford Transit Demers Type II Ambulance. This Ambulance is replacing our 2009 Ford E-350. We would like to thank Glick Fire Equipment Company for their great customer service once again. We anticipate this unit will serve us well, hopefully for the next 15 years. This unit is almost identical to our 2017 Ambulance.
We would like to take the time to congratulate our member, Beth Bush, on successfully obtaining her Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification after 4 months of training and testing. Our members are always training to better serve our community and the surrounding community to the best of our ability!
The Mountain Top Fire Company has been approved for a grant through the PA Office of The State Fire Commissioner in the amount of $11,920.24 for the fire company and $9,192.44 for the ambulance. These monies will be used for debt reduction on Brush 13 and Ambulance 13-1, respectively. We are very grateful for these grants along with the tremendous community support!
We hosted the Cub Scout Pack 43 of West Decatur. A few members went over first aid with the scouts for various emergencies including severe bleeding, heart attack, strokes, snake bites, tick bites, shock, and cardiac arrest. It was amazing to find out what these scouts already knew pertaining to these emergencies. The scouts obtained their First Responder Badge last evening. We were honored to have been chosen to teach them. Congratulations!
Our EMS division ended the 2019 year with 411 calls for service. That is down 86 from 2018. Last evening, Cub Scout Pack 43 of West Decatur attended a Fire Prevention Presentation/Demonstration at our firehouse. The kids learned about smoke detectors, carbon monoxide alarms, primary and secondary evacuation plans, contacting 911, firefighter gear, and fire extinguishers.
