Fire-Vehicle Crash W/ Entrap

4600 TYRONE PIKE BLK, RUSH TWP

Company 13 Fire & EMS along with Medic 23 was alerted for a vehicle accident with entrapment on the Sandy Ridge Mountain. Dispatch advised of a tractor trailer and a truck collided with one entrapped. Upon arrival of Chief 13, he found a tractor trailer overturned over the northbound embankment into the stream with the tractor partially blocking the northbound lane. One occupant was found to be entrapped and two walking wounded. The tractor trailer was found to be hauling frozen shrimp. The next due rescue and additional EMS units were requested along with a request to PSP to have a heavy wrecker respond immediately to stabilize the tractor trailer. Engine Rescue 13 arrived on scene and immediately began stabilization utilizing struts and cribbing while beginning the extrication process. EMS arrived on scene and began patient care and requested a helicopter in the air. Engine Rescue 36 arrived on scene and stabilized the tractor via a come-a-long secured to their front bumper. Bigler Boyz utilized their crane boom to also further stabilize the tractor trailer. Crews utilized cutters, spreaders, rams, Airbags, saw zaws, and reciprocating saws in order to free the trapped occupant. The large amount of motor oil, grease, and transmission fluid all over the roadway and in the cab along with the large amount of belongings on top of the occupant and the guide rail which went thru the cab made for a lengthy operation. This was a extensive and challenging extrication for our little town but this is what we train for! We would like to thank the Bald Eagle FD for all their assistance along with the Columbia Fire Company for establishing the landing zone at the Sandy Ridge Ball Field.
